Focusing On Energy During Washington Spring
The World Bank Group & IMF hold the annual Spring Meeting this April 15 – 17 when energy is on the of the developmental agenda. Each spring, thousands of government officials, journalists, civil society organizations, and participants from the academia and private sectors, gather in Washington DC for the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. At the heart of the gathering are meetings of the IMF’s International Monetary and Financial Committee and the joint World Bank-IMF Development Committee, which discuss progress on the work of the IMF and the World Bank Group.
Also featured at this spring meeting are seminars, regional briefings, press conferences, and many other events focused on the global economy, international development, and the world’s financial markets. This year’s Spring Meetings events will take place in Washington, DC, April 12-17, 2016. However, the plenary session of the IMF and World Bank Group’s Boards of Governors is scheduled only during the Annual Meetings in autumn.
Because the Spring Meetings bring such a large number of member country officials together, they provide opportunities for consultations large and small, formal and informal. Numerous seminars are held in conjunction with the meetings, including seminars conducted by staff members for members of the press. The Spring Meetings Program of Seminars is designed to foster creative dialogue among the private sector, government delegates and senior IMF and Bank officials.
On the side lines of the Spring Meeting, as mentioned, are other private events targeted at the developmental issues that need addressing around the world.
