The Canterbury Museum aims to provide the people of Canterbury and our visitors with a world class Museum. We tell the stories of Christchurch and Canterbury, showing locals where they have come from and encouraging respect and understanding in our diverse society.
Highlights of the Museum include the world's greatest collection of artifacts from the heroic age of discovery in Antarctica, the Mori collections in the Iwi Tawhito and Ng Taonga galleries, and the quirky kiwiana of Fred and Myrtle's Paua Shell House at Canterbury Museum. These exhibits are all tourist draw-cards in their own right and enhance the Museum's ability to be a place of ongoing learning and participation for our communities.
