More Wind Farms For Hungary
|Iberdrola Renovables is expanding it’s wind investment in Hungary.|
Iberdrola Renovables, the world’s leading wind power company, has started to build the Scott and Csoma I wind farms in Hungary, with a combined capacity of 74 megawatts. When these facilities come online, the company’s aggregate capacity of 124 MW will make it Hungary’s largest wind power operator.
The Scott wind farm has a capacity of 36 MW, while Csoma I has a capacity of 38 MW. Both sites are in the Komarom-Esztergom Megye district near the city of Komarom in northern Hungary, and are equipped with Gamesa G90 wind turbines. One wind turbine provides 2 MW of capacity.
The new wind farms are set to raise the company’s installed capacity in Hungary to 124 MW. Iberdrola Renovables already operates the Kisigmand site, also in the Komarom-Esztergom county. With 50 MW of capacity, the wind farm is Hungary’s largest.
Its presence in the wind farm business in Eastern Europe is part of the company’s strategy to grow profitably and expand to other countries, focusing particularly on the US and Europe.
Iberdrola Renovables already has 160.5 MW of installed capacity in Poland, where it has six wind farms. The company is now developing a wind farm in the Lueganuse municipality, Estonia; with capacity of 150 MW, it will be the country’s largest.
Iberdrola Renovables has opened an office in Bucharest, Romania, and has a 1,600 MW project pipeline across 50 sites in the country’s Dobrogea region. The company is also developing new sites in Bulgaria.
Iberdrola Renovables ended the third quarter of 2009 with 10,477 MW of installed capacity across 23 countries, strengthening its position as the world’s leading wind energy company.
In addition, at the end of the first half of 2009 the company had a project pipeline of over 56,600 MW, the world’s largest, which has the following geographic distribution: 42% of the pipeline is in the US, 25% in Spain, 9% in the UK and 24% in the rest of the world.
